T for Trouble

I was made aware of a new blog last week called BIM Troublemaker, authored by a mysterious troublemaker under the same name. For kicks, I looked up the definition of “troublemaker”:

a person who causes difficulties, distress, worry, etc., for others, esp. one who does so habitually as a matter of malice.

Now that is way too harsh! I don’t think this person’s intent is to cause any harm. I would say this troublemaker is a source of inspiration, so keep a watchful eye for future posts. The work already posted on stadium sightlines using the massing families is truly remarkable.

Funny thing…turns out this person attended the class that my friend Steven Campbell and I taught back in AU2008. If this person was “jolted” and inspired a little bit through that class to learn how to master Revit’s parametric abilities, then all the hard work that went into pulling the class together was well worth it!

Sites worth noting

I’ve been meaning to write about these for a while so here we go:

revitstore

Ian Howard is the main force behind this site. I didn’t know, but Ian used to work for Revit Technologies before Autodesk’s acquisition. This is a great website hosting good quality Family Content from UK Content Autodesk Consultant/Content Developer. It also contains lots of Tips and Tricks that are gradually being added, time permitting.

buildz

Zach Kron from Autodesk has started a great blog. Zach is a wizard with the new curtain panels in the new massing environment (those that Beta tested Revit know this!). I highly recommend subscribing.

As usual, keep an eye on my blog’s sidebar for the latest links to various resources of interest, as I don’t write about every link I add ;)

New blog worth noting

The number of Revit and BIM blogs out there keeps proliferating. I don’t announce every new one I come across, but I think this one is worth noting.

Inside the Factory

Inside the Factory is a new blog by “factory workers” Tom Vollaro, Lilli Smith and Erik Egbertson. It should give us an inside look at how the entire Revit user experience is designed, implemented and documented. I look forward to following it as it promises to be interesting!

Make sure to keep an eye on my Revit & BIM Reading Essentials blog roll on the sidebar and the list of links below it, which I keep religiously updated :)

3ds max Blog

For the past few months, shroud in absolute secrecy, my good friend and very talented Ramy Hanna has been blogging about 3ds max. He does some amazing things around the office and now he's writing about it in a way that most folks can understand and learn from. It immediately made my list of blogs to follow and I'm sure a lot of others will follow suit. Now if only I can find time to learn some of that! I might trade him some Revit teaching time with some 3ds max time...

Excellent Blogs

I have been recently following Greg Mcdowell's blog Life's too short to drink cheap wine. It deals with Greg's thoughts about BIM (and Revit) and professional practice from his perspective. I think he's got an excellent writing style and I really relate to most of his thoughts on the subject. I just had to recommend this blog!

On a slightly different subject (corporate culture, marketing, thought-provoking dialogue, etc.) is Seth's Blog (from best selling author, Seth Godin). Both these have now become part of my daily routine :)
