I was trying to copy linework from a Detail Component family to a Profile family and Revit wouldn’t let me, saying that I couldn’t copy between Family and Project. Huh?
Anyway, the workaround is to copy the linework from the Detail Component Family to a view in a Project and then do exactly what Revit says cannot be done…copy the linework back from the Project to the Profile Family. Done, next….
Since this was a short, dry post, I’ll try redeeming myself by urging you to read the latest issue of AUGI|AEC Edge (link in blog sidebar under the AUGI banner) and also to make sure that if you are going to AU, please don’t miss Phil Read’s class on stairs and railings. So that got me playing and I found that only the exact lines copied from a family to a project (and vice versa) would go (that's partially cool). With 2 families the geometry didn't travel to both, nor would the geometry from one family go to the project AND the other family... As Mick said: "you can't always get what you want..."
