Miss Representation

Exhibit A: Section at roof. What’s wrong with this view?

Section

I know, you’re probably answering…”The deck is not resting on the joist, call your Engineer!”. Well, I did. Sent several emails actually and had the engineering team scratch their heads and think I’m nuts. There’s actually nothing wrong with the model and we’re coordinated! I should have noticed this, but my brain played a nasty trick on me.

Exhibit B: The truth.

Section - Explained

This particular 2D view is not telling the whole story and should also include the additional green linework above. So next time you’re presented with a similar puzzler, don’t be too quick to jump to conclusions! Hmmm, and I thought Revit never lied…

Yeah and your joist seat looks out of wack. Also looks like your web is welded to the embed.

The view is actually correct. I guess it's all about fine tuning exactly where the view is cut (if possible). I might shift the sections slightly so they're right at the joist's face.

Dave, I have to admit that even after all of this time cutting sections in Revit perpendicular to a slope still drives me crazy. Yes, I know that Revit shows it the way it is, but sometimes I just want to see something a little cleaner! But I am learning to adjust...

So is the truss a model element or detail family? If it's a detail family, couldn't you just bump it up till it touches? And woudln't the distance from the bottom of the deck to the seat in the concrete be the same? Why the extra room between the two?

The truss is accurately modeled. The seat also slopes per the roof.
